Being with a bunch of people, being one of the people, to stand up and say “NO” to one tiny part of what’s gone wrong — brings a purity of pleasure unlike any other. The “NO” is obvious, but there’s also a “YES.” Yes to sane energy, yes to piecing together an idealistic community, yes to an occasionally-shakable faith that, appearances aside, this is what a better world looks like being born.

This morning on 202 we stopped Spectra. They wanted to build their pipeline some more and they couldn’t because we were in their way. For maybe a couple hours. No one got hurt. No one really got mad. We executed our plan and trusted each other and worked together against the impulse that says taking the world apart is a price worth paying. And none of the police or the people we interfered with believe it’s okay to take the world apart.

And with every week that goes by, a few more people show up and ask what they can do to help. And you can too.

During the time we spent in direct action our fellow citizens gave us 38 honks and other signs of support. Only two flipped us their birds.

Two people were arrested this morning.  The inflatable balloons were created in Paris as part of to serve a world-wide demonstration by people who believe that the red line of catastrophic climate change must not be crossed. Shipping methane through the pipeline Spectra is trying to build will make climate change worse.
