Marc Maron

Perhaps you remember the recent My Peekskill column where I discussed my alarm at discovering some racist and anti-immigrant agitation going on right here in Peekskill. I wondered if it might not be connected to Donald Trump’s demagoguery — which was subsequently picked up by a goodly percentage of the rest of the GOP pander-fest. Anyway, it’s here: PaulStark.name/My-Peekskill/My-Peekskill-7-Spanish-as-a-First-Language-Cookies/

Sir Ian McKellen

Sir Ian McKellen

I haven’t heard Marc Maron’s podcast in a long while (he has *very* interesting interviews with *very* interesting people). This morning as I orbited like the supermOOn around the PHS track I listened to his interview with Ian McKellen. Which was *very* good. Sir Ian talked about coming out, being knighted, playing Gandalf (“Anybody could play him. It’s easy — put on the beard, put on the voice, and there you are!”). And at the end he recited what is probably the greatest speech against anti-immigrant agitation ever written. It’s from Sir Thomas More, a play written in part by Shakespeare, and writing for the theater we have actually written in Shakespeare’s handwriting.

(And, BTW, his recent guests include: Sir Patrick Stewart and President Barack Obama!)

Anyway, I want you to hear it. Here’s the podcast: WTFPod.com/Podcast/Episodes/Episode_621_-_Sir_Ian_McKellen. It begins around the 1:00 hour mark (which will also give you the chance to hear his opinion about Anthony Perkins playing Gandalf.) Go there. Listen to it!
